New to LA Pilates?

Our studio offers a range of Pilates disciplines; Reformer, Matwork & Tower — so where should you start?

First, the biggest misconceptions…

✘ Matwork is for beginners & tower is the most advanced

✔ In fact, you can start with any discipline! Our classes are suitable for all levels (although Reformer offers L1/L2 and L2 options too) and as you’ll see in the descriptions below, the different classes achieve different goals - they don’t have a hierarchy. If you are wanting something super simple, you can start with our Gentle Mat class, but you don’t have to.

✘ I should start with 1 discipline and progress through the types

✔ Actually there's no prerequisite order! You can choose to focus on just one discipline, or attend classes for all the different types if you wish.

Many clients come 2-3 times a week mixing disciplines. Our class packs make it easy to stay consistent!

The Pilates disciplines all work together to create a full system

  • Mat Pilates Classes Truro

    Matwork Pilates

Body-weight based. Builds core stability, posture and control. A stable surface = great for balance challenges or reconnecting to movement.

Gentle Mat is good for: Those starting their Pilates journey and wanting a slower pace.

Flow Mat is good for: Strong positions, stamina and burn.

  • Tower Pilates Classes Truro

    Tower Pilates

Springs add resistance and support. Still base, moving parts — a brilliant bridge into or to improve your Reformer practice. Especially good for rebuilding strength after injury.

Good for: Wanting spring resistance with stability and improving strength & confidence.

  • Chair Pilates Classes Truro

    Chair Pilates

We incorporate this into our Tower classes — not to be confused with ‘chair pilates’ you might see in a village hall! Challenges balance, coordination, and full-body strength.

Good for: Functional strength and challenging balance.

  • Reformer

    Reformer Pilates

Moving carriage, adjustable resistance for variety and challenge. A smooth, flowing workout — adaptable from rehabilitation through to advanced strength work.

Good for: Dynamic movement, variety and flow, advancing strength

Why not try a mix of all the disciplines?

For those who already lead an active lifestyle or want to push their Pilates practice further, a mix of all four styles can be incredibly rewarding. Combining classes keeps your body adapting, builds strength in different ways, and keeps your practice feeling fresh and motivating.

There’s no “one right way” to do Pilates here. Many of our clients start with Mat or Tower and naturally progress into Reformer as they grow stronger and more confident, but it’s not necessary to do it that way.

“I had never done Pilates before and am delighted to see excellent progress!”

“I have been doing 2 sessions a week for just over a year and love Lucy, Kat and LA Pilates. The classes are fun, friendly and challenging. The instructors are excellent and correcting my posture so I get the most out of the exercises and have the correct form.”
