How Often Should You Actually Do Pilates?
Let’s settle this question I get ask a lot, “How often should I be doing Pilates?”
To be honest? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer (sorry about that, I’m realistic).
Life is busy. Some weeks you’ll make it to one class, some weeks you’ll manage three. The important thing is finding a rhythm that works for you — and one that you can stick with, that’s when the magic happens.
But if you’re wondering what you might notice as you increase your frequency, here’s my take…
This is me, giving you my take on it!
✨ 1x a week — You’re starting to understand
Once a week is a great place to start.
You become familiar with the movements, learn how your body works and begin to understand those little Pilates cues that make all the difference, “tuck your tail team”.
Think of it as building your Pilates foundations.
You might leave thinking, “Ooh, I can feel muscles I forgot I had!” or “Ooh I can’t stop shaking like Elvis”.
✨ 2x a week — You’re feeling the difference
This is where things start to feel a little more familiar.
You’re remembering the exercises, moving with more confidence and beginning to notice changes in how your body feels — perhaps standing a little taller, moving more freely or feeling stronger through your everyday life.
You’re not just doing Pilates… you’re starting to feel like a Pilates person, and man it feels amazing!
✨ 3x a week — You’re seeing the difference
Three sessions a week gives your body more consistency and your practice more opportunity to progress.
You can challenge your strength, mobility, coordination and control — and this is where you may really start to see the difference in your body and movement.
BUT here’s the important bit…
It’s not just about doing MORE Pilates. It’s about doing MORE of the Pilates.
Reformer gives you resistance, strength and dynamic movement.
Tower challenges your control, mobility and connection.
Chair brings strength, stability and a whole new level of coordination.
Mat teaches you to control your body using nothing but yourself — the ultimate Pilates toolkit! (hello OG)
They all complement each other, helping you build a stronger, more capable body from different angles.
So rather than thinking “I need to come three times a week”, think:
“How much do I want to invest in how I feel?”
Once a week is brilliant. Twice can help you build momentum. Three times can give you even more opportunity to progress.
There’s no gold star for how many classes you attend, although I will happily steal one from Esme’s batch if you want one.
The best frequency is the one that fits your life — and makes you feel good enough to keep coming back.
Your body is the only one you get, It deserves the investment. 🤍
